Defining and Describing New Economy Skills Training

New Economy Skills Training describes practical education that connects learners with emerging workplace capabilities, mentorship, and pathways to opportunity.
In the available evidence, “NEST” is used by multiple organizations rather than as one universally defined training model. The clearest education-related example is an Atlanta nonprofit delivering business and financial education, mentorship, and seed capital to students with limited access to entrepreneurial resources.[3] Other organizations use NEST as an acronym for employment-skills programs, including Nisga’a Employment Skills & Training, which supports Indigenous citizens with training and employment services.[8] The term therefore applies most usefully to programs that combine applied skills, career readiness, technology or entrepreneurship, and access-building rather than classroom instruction alone.[3][8]

Uses in Context

  • Entrepreneurship education: NEST can describe programs combining business education, mentorship, and startup capital for students.[3]
  • Marketing and communication: Its curriculum also includes marketing and public speaking, positioning skills as practical tools for launching or presenting ventures.[3]
  • Emerging technology: The same seminars reportedly include 3D prototyping and training language-learning models.[3]
