Keeping Up Catches Up: A Summer of Agent Tooling, Dated to When It Happened

Why Care?

Homebrew's "new formulae" list is one of the better early signals for what developers are building, and most of it scrolls past unread. We went through months of those lists, looked up each package, and wrote up the ones that matter to us or to people working the way we do. That's 46 new posts in Keeping Up , and the theme is hard to miss: 30 of them are about AI agents, and 19 touch the Model Context Protocol.
Each post is dated to when the thing actually happened, not to the day we wrote about it. For most, that's the day the Homebrew pull request merged. Where a project's own announcement, major release or shutdown was the real news, the post uses that date instead. So the collection reads as a timeline from July to November 2026.
Most of these are reads, not reviews. Unless a post says otherwise, we haven't run the tool, and vendor claims are attributed as vendor claims.

  • Smithery CLI : what happens to your agent dependencies when the registry goes away.
  • Kontext : local policy for agents, and the catch in how it fails.
  • OpenLore : agent memory with no LLM in the loop, and benchmarks that include the losses.
  • The Craft Suite : AI-built Rust clones of Adobe and Microsoft apps, and how much to believe.
  • Homebrew 7.0 : the package manager behind this whole sweep gets an official GUI.
